Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive weight loss procedure that involves reducing the size of the stomach using an endoscope. It is performed as an outpatient procedure and does not require any incisions or cuts.

ESG is performed using a flexible endoscope, a long, thin tube equipped with a camera and instruments. The endoscope is passed through the mouth and down the esophagus into the stomach. The surgeon then uses the instruments to create several small sutures in the stomach, reducing its size and limiting the amount of food it can hold.

The procedure takes about an hour to complete and patients can typically return to their normal activities within a day or two. It is a less invasive alternative to traditional bariatric surgery and does not require general anesthesia.

Studies have shown that ESG can lead to significant weight loss, with patients losing an average of 30-50% of their excess body weight within the first year. It can also improve other obesity-related conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and sleep apnea.
